June 14, 2025
Step Up San Marcos hosted a packed protest for #NoKings Day. We expected 300, and over 1,200 showed up.
About Us
What we believe
Donald Trump thinks his rule is absolute, but in America, we donโt do โkings.โ Since the inauguration, the Trump administration and its enablers have operated as though they have a mandateโbut they donโt, and never did. They are going to extremes to empower Trump and enrich themselves, while cutting jobs and services for the rest of us.
What we protest
Step Up San Marcos is a mobilization in response to the increasing authoritarian excesses and corruption of the Trump administration. Weโve watched as theyโve cracked down on free speech, detained people for their political positions, threatened to deport American citizens, and defied the courts. Theyโve done this all while continuing to serve and enrich their billionaire allies. They think they ruleโbut we are bigger than even their worst aspirations.
We are united against kings: Trump has already indicated that heโs aiming for at least a third term, and now heโs planning a self-aggrandizing military parade in D.C But the American people donโt put up with kings. Together, we will mobilize in huge numbers to reject this corruption and abuse of powerโitโs in our DNA as a country.
How we protest
Step Up San Marcos is committed to non-violence. We reject all forms of political violence and intimidation, no matter the source or the target. Our resistance is strategic, principled, and grounded in the knowledge that peaceful movements win. Step Up San Marcos believes non-violent demonstrations are a way for citizens to โlove our enemiesโ without liking them, exercising our democratic rights to express dissatisfaction with oppressive systems, discriminatory practices, and unjust laws or policies.
A core principle behind all Step Up San Marcos events is a commitment to non-violent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.
