Who We Are

Step Up San Marcos is a grassroots coalition of everyday people in San Marcos, and surrounding Central Texas communities, committed to defending democracy, truth, and justice through nonviolent action. We are a proud local partner of the national Indivisible movement—one of thousands of chapters across the country uniting to stop the erosion of democratic norms and build an inclusive democracy.

In the face of growing threats from the current administration that seeks to undermine the rule of law, spread disinformation, and consolidate power behind a would-be dictator, we refuse to be silent. We believe in decency, transparency, accountability, and the enduring power of the people.

Our strategy is to:

• Stand up for truth and reject misinformation
• Protest injustice and authoritarian overreach
• Support the vulnerable 
• Defend the Constitution and the rule of law
• Mobilize voters and protect the freedom to vote
• Guide our elected officials toward ethical, people-first policies
• Support and work to elect leaders who uphold democratic values
• Support public schools libraries and public media and a free press
• Support science, national parks, the environment and  healthcare access
• Support fair practices in creating voting districts 

Step Up San Marcos is 100% volunteer-powered. Your donations go directly to the costs of grassroots organizing—like protest supplies, meeting spaces, website support, outreach materials, and Get Out The Vote campaigns.

We fight not with fear, but with confidence, courage, and solidarity. Together, we can help turn the tide and restore decency, justice, and respect—for the environment, for immigrants, for a free press, and for the social safety nets that hold our communities together.
